Christian Mitchell (One of our coaches and senior water polo team players) alongside students at Bournemouth School for Boys swam the length of the English Channel (21 miles) on February 7 for hospice charity Julia’s House and as part of a week-long charity event at the school. Alongside students Justus Dirks, Arief Mckenna and Adam Guliver they started at 6am and took 10 and a half hours to complete this challenge.
Adam had an eight-year-old cousin who was supported by the hospice before she died in 2015. He said: “I had a cousin called Sophie who suffered a brain tumour. She battled for ten months before she passed away. Julia’s House were there throughout to give her constant care to my family and this is the first thing I’ve done to support them.”
Christian swam just shy of 7 miles and the other boys made up the rest of the distance.
“I would personally like to thank everyone who donated and supported this event, thank you to Bournemouth Swim Club who sponsored us and also to BHlive for allowing us to swim at Stokewood throughout the day”
The total raised for Julia’s house charity by Christian and his team so far is £6951 which is a huge achievement
